Az amerikai védelmi minisztérium támadásokat fontolgat a szomáliai kalózbázisok ellen - közölték amerikai katonai források.

A Pentagonban javaslatok készülnek arra is, hogy a kalózok szárazföldi központjai elleni akciókkal egyidejűleg segítséget nyújtsanak a szomáliai kormánynak a biztonsági erők kiképzéséhez és hatékony parti őrség kialakításához.

A névtelenséget kérő katonai tisztviselők szerint a javaslatok - amelyeket Barack Obama kormánya elé terjesztenek - összehangolt nemzetközi fellépést irányoznak elő a kalóztevékenység visszaszorítására.

A Pentagonból származó értesülés szerint olyan komoly katonai akció nem szerepel a lehetséges tervekben, mint az amerikai erők 1992-94-es szomáliai küldetése volt, amelyben 42 amerikai katona halt meg.

Biztonsági elemzők szerint a nemzetközi tengerhajózás vonalainak biztonságosabbá tételéhez fel kell számolni a térségben a kalózok szárazföldi háttérhálózatát. "Valójában nincs mágikus megoldás, meg kell semmisíteni a bázisokat" - mondta James Carafano, a washingtoni Heritage Foundation kutatóintézet munkatársa.

A Fehér Ház közlése szerint Barack Obama elnök - aki személyesen adott engedélyt a szomáliai kalózok fogságába esett amerikai hajóskapitány fegyveres kiszabadítására - kezébe vette a kalózok elleni fellépés irányítását. Washington állítólag más országokkal és a hajózási társaságokkal is egyeztet annak érdekében, hogy a hajókat biztonságosabbá tegyék, meghiúsítsák a támadásokat, és eljárást indítsanak az elfogott kalózok ellen.

Elemzők szerint szinte lehetetlen teljes egészében ellenőrizni a szomáliai kalózok garázdálkodásának területét, amely akkora, mint a Földközi- és a Vörös-tenger együttvéve.
